Why Do These Businesses Close?

Seasonal Downtime: Many businesses in the Keys take advantage of the slow season to rest and rejuvenate. It’s a chance for staff to take vacations and for owners to do deep cleaning or make necessary renovations.

Hurricane Season: September is peak hurricane season, and some closures are precautionary, allowing businesses to secure their properties and ensure the safety of their employees.

Tips for Visitors

Check Ahead: Always check with your intended destinations ahead of time to ensure they’re open during your visit.
Explore Alternatives: While some favorite spots might be closed, many other attractions, such as state parks, beaches, and watersports activities, remain open and are less crowded during this time.

While September might bring some closures in the Florida Keys, it’s also a time of tranquility and natural beauty. The slower pace allows visitors to experience the Keys in a more relaxed and intimate way, with plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors, enjoy local hospitality, and savor the quiet charm of island life.
